The AdBuC team have been busy planning and lobbying to host a big event at the Gold Coast of our own - the 1st annual Australian Beach Ultimate Championships (ABUC) hopefully for 2012.
Please email (natman82 at gmail dot com) your ideas and/or support for this event and help us bring beach ultimate in Australia to a whole new level.
Over time we will be updating this page with more info about our bid and what progress is being made... we hope you will enjoy the journey with us.
Update #4 - 23 December 2011 - WE WIN.... let the planning begin :-)

Subject: Australian Beach Ultimate Champs Bid - by ADBUC TOC on the GOLD COAST SE QLD.
Congratulations!!!! the AFDA has endorsed that ADBUC2012 will be held on the Gold Coast 19/20 May 2012
The AFDA also agreed that the Gold Coast would host the event initially from 2012 -2015 to allow the event to grow.
Update #3 - 6 December 2011
The Australia Day Beach Ultimate Championships TOC and friends wish to host the
AUSTRALIAN BEACH ULTIMATE CHAMPIONSHIPS at the GOLD COAST SE QLD
for the next 4 years. We believe we have the ideal location (Gold Coast – Coolangatta
Beach), date (Within 1 month of Nationals), enthusiasm and experience to host a first class
event and create a strong beach ultimate culture in Australia.
2012 19/20 May 3rd weekend (Nationals in East)
2013 18/19 or 25/26 May 3rd or 4th weekend (Nationals in South)
2014 17/18 or 24/25 May 3rd or 4th weekend (Nationals in East)
2015 16/17 or 23/24 May 3rd or 4th weekend (Nationals in West)
The future of the event – we believe that once we have established a fun filled, competitive
and good valued national championship on the Gold Coast, this event would be about to
support location rotation (like Nationals and Mixed Nationals) and 2 different options for
dates. We suggest the AFDA encourages southern states where May on the beach is not
so enjoyable to use the Australia Day Public Holiday (long weekend sometimes) to allow
of a 3rd day of competition, warm weather and for travel. To this end after 2015 we as the
ADBUC TOC would be happy to move our tourney from that weekend in the years that
southern states host this National Championship to our proposed dates in May and back again
if and when QLD re-host the Beach Nationals.
Update #2 - 2 December 2011
More about the location – GOLD COAST – there are good reasons why AUS hosts AUG every second year here, why the National Surf Life Saving Championships are often here and why we started an annual beach tourney here back in 2009. All the required, helpful and extra infrastructure is here and can be available.
- · Big beautiful beaches and grass parks
- · Toilets and showers
- · GGGC support (limited tourney size support in January for 4 years and more support of larger tourneys out of summer)
- · International airports within 5 mins and 80mins of the venue – serviced by domestic and international LCC. (ie. Jetstar, Virgin and Air Asia)
- · Huge range of accommodation options from BBs to holiday units to 5 Star Resorts plus the TOC could organise bulk accommodation or a hall to fill with bodies if required/requested.
- · Many night life locations close to the beach venue and many more within 30 mins (at Surfers)
- · Lastly normally good weather to play all day on the beach even in May.
Finally in an attempt to attract international and out of state clubs/teams plus to have an after beach nationals party and relaxed weekend for the TOC and volunteers in our inaugural year (at least) we are planning a beach hat tourney on the Sunshine Coast (200kms North – connected by Train/Bus/Car pool) the weekend after Beach Nationals. Having travelled many places for Ultimate tourneys it can be a great thing to have 2 tourneys (1 serious and 1 relaxed) back to back encourage International participation and multiply the fun.
Update #1 - 25 November 2011
Name
The tournament will be called the AFDA Australian Beach Ultimate Championships or
AFDA Australian Championships of Beach Ultimate.
Objectives
The objectives of Beach Nationals are:
- to grow participation and knowledge of Beach Ultimate;
- to host a single Championship with Open, Women’s and Mixed divisions;
- to have a massive social plan to celebrate Ultimate and the end of the Nationals season;
- to help grow Regional centre and Regionals – by providing more teams/clubs with an extra format and tournament to compete in;
- to create certainty and an incentive for clubs/teams to travel to an interstate tournament, by making it an AFDA championship;
- to give national representative teams a larger base for selection;
- to provide additional athlete pathways for developing athletes;
- to allow as many teams and players as possible to play teams from around the country; and
- to help achieve AFDA planning/development goals.
